The small size of the 品茗杯 (pǐn míng bēi):, or tasting cup, is not only for aesthetics. It allows the Tea Artist to focus on the changing flavor, aroma and temperature of the tea with each consecutive steep. In the ritual of gong fu cha, the tasting cup encourages slow and mindful sips, cultivating states of deep concentration.
