The small size of the Beizi 杯子, or Tasting Cup, is not only for aesthetics. It allows the Tea Practitioner to focus on the changing flavor, aroma and temperature of the tea with each consecutive steep. In the ritual of Gong Fu Cha, the Beizi encourages slow and mindful sips, cultivating states of deep concentration for the Tea Practitioner.
